CHILDHOOD CANCER CAMPAIGN
|
![]() |
Did you know that each year more than 12,000 children and teenagers will be diagnosed with cancer? Did you also know that one in every 330 Americans develops cancer before the age of 20? Because of statistics such as these, Optimist Clubs are encouraged to participate in this program by building awareness of the disease, providing assistance for children and their families, and supporting research to find a cure.
This is the first year for this new and exciting program. There are many ways for clubs to participate: patient transportation, party planning, adopt-a-family, reading, etc. Be creative! Individuals have the opportunity to earn a lapel pin and clubs can earn a banner patch by participating in the program, completing the Recognition Awards Report Form, and submitting the form to the International Office by September 30, 2006.
More detailed information about this program is available in the "International Programs Planning Guide". This planning guide was mailed to all governors-elect, lieutenant governors-elect, district chairs-elect, and club presidents-elect in June. If you are interested in any section of the guide, please contact your club president to request a copy of the appropriate pages. Additional copies of the International Programs Planning Guide as well as support merchandise for each program can be ordered through Shumsky Enterprises in the United States toll free at (877) 678-2582, or in Canada by calling the Canadian Service Centre at (800) 363-7151. You may also download a copy of the planning pages from this web site.
