Childhood Cancer Campaign

Did you know that each year more than 12,000 children and teenagers will be diagnosed with cancer? Did you also know that one in every 330 Americans develops cancer before the age of 20? Because of statistics such as these, Optimist Clubs are encouraged to participate in this program by building awareness of the disease, providing assistance for children and their families, and supporting research to find a cure.

There are many ways for clubs to participate: patient transportation, party planning, adopt-a-family, reading, etc. Be creative! Individuals have the opportunity to earn a lapel pin and clubs can earn a banner patch by participating in the program, completing the Recognition Awards Report Form, and submitting the form to the International Office by September 30, 2006.

For additional information, please contact Optimist International by email at programs@optimist.org, or call 800-500-8130, extension 224.

For Clubs, there is a planning guide, and program description availble here:
